Dr Claire Lewry

Dr Claire Lewry is a Counselling Psychologist who works in the NHS and in private practice. She holds a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from the University of East London and both a BSc and MSc in Forensic Psychology. Claire has experience of people struggling across the lifespan with a range of difficulties including interpersonal and relational difficulties, anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic, and anger. Claire has particular experience in those struggling with the impact of trauma, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex trauma (CPTSD), she has also worked with people experiencing voices, visions, and unusual beliefs.

Claire’s therapeutic work is informed by integrative models of therapy focussing on the person’s need offering clients a safe, confidential space to process their experience without judgement. She takes a compassionate individualised approach to treatment, helping clients to draw upon their own resources and strengths, in order to bring a better understanding to their experiences and bring meaning into therapy through psychological formulation.

Claire believes therapy is most effective when client centred and approaches sessions with questions about systems and power in order to consider What happened to you? rather than What’s wrong with you? She believes in seeing the person as a whole and considers social, community, cultural, and systemic issues alongside difficulties with someone’s wellbeing.
