Dr Samantha Adams

Dr Samantha Adams is a Clinical Psychologist who works in the NHS and a co-founder of ABODE Therapy, her private practice. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College London. She has experience working with people at various stages of life, from children through to older adults, who are facing a range of experiences, including anxiety, low mood, trauma, long-term physical health conditions, and more severe and enduring mental health problems. She currently works in a forensic hospital setting with people who have been through extremely traumatic life experiences. Samantha has also worked as an Associate Lecturer at University College London and has written for media publications on topics of racism, community and wellbeing, with recent features in British Vogue, The Guardian, The Observer, and Vanity Fair.

Samantha’s therapeutic work is informed by the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and narrative therapy approaches. She is a patient and empathetic therapist who works collaboratively with clients - doing with, not doing to.

Prior to training as a clinical psychologist, Samantha completed her MSc in Neuroimaging and a PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King’s College London. Her research focused on how the brain processes rewards and punishments, and whether this brain process could be a new target to treat eating disorders.
